The usual teams are near the top of the power rankings. The surprise all year has been the Houston Rockets who could eventually end up second in the power rankings. The collision course between the Warriors and Cavaliers looks like the most likely scenario, but upsets can happen. The Spurs and Grizzles are at their usual consistency. The Clippers are a solid team that looked promising at the beginning of the year but they would have to go on a run in order to win a championship. The Utah Jazz could cause some problems for the teams in the West. Utah brings a combination of youth and veteran presence which could lead them to upsets in the playoffs. The top two teams in the East behind the Cavaliers are the Raptors and Celtics. Both teams could surprise the Cavaliers in the East, but they would have to be playing on another level then they are right now. The bottom 5 teams in the power rankings  are a variety of teams. The 76ers are on their up the rankings and the Knicks are on the way down to the bottom 5.  A surprise this year has been the Mavericks fall from grace. The Miami heat have fell hard in a couple of year with the departure of the Big 3. The team projected before the year to finish with the worst record in the NBA is on their way to doing it. The season is about at the mid way point so plenty of action to still go before the playoffs.

MVP Race

  1. James Harden - Houston Rockets
  2. Lebron James - Cleveland Cavaliers
  3. Russell Westbrook - Oklahoma City Thunder
  4. Kevin Durant - Golden State Warriors
  5. Isaiah Thomas - Boston Celtics

Might be a couple surprises for some people who read this. Harden team has better record then Westbrook and he is putting up triple doubles as well. Lebron James has very strong numbers and a better record then Westbrook which puts him second in the race. The triple double machine Russell Westbrook comes in third. I have Thomas in the 5th sport over Leonard because of the numbers he has put up recently. Thomas has also been clutch, but Leonard and Curry aren't far behind. Only 3 guys can win it this year barring injuries to the top 3.

Five teams that might look into a coaching change - Pelicans, Nets, Suns, Knicks, Bulls
