Sports Recap - Monday, January 23

The King Not Happy

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a rough month of January. Last night, the Cavaliers lost to a New Orleans Pelicans team without Anthony Davis. In reality, it doesn't matter what happens until the playoffs but Lebron wants more. Lebron is looking for the team to add either a point guard or a play maker to the rotation. Is this just Lebron's attempt to get some more players or is he actually concerned about the team? It looks like it is more of a way for Lebron to get management to go out and find some more pieces to the puzzle. The Cavaliers as they stand now still don't have anything to worry about. On the other hand, adding more play making to a team has never hurt. The Cavaliers need to come out of the funk before the All-Star Game just so they can get some momentum on their side. Even if it doesn't matter until playoffs, no one is a fan of losing games. Cleveland Cavaliers management it is now your move.

Duke Blue Devils Struggles Continue

The Duke Blue Devils are struggling to look anything like the number 1 ranked team that came into the season. Duke has lost 3 of their last 6 games, and are struggling both offensively and defensively. The biggest defensive problem are the bigs on the pick and roll. The communication and athletic ability to get out and back doesn't seem to be there right now. The offense has put up a decent amount of points each game but the consistency isn't there. Last night, Grayson Allen and Luke Kennard didn't start the game. The problem with that, even with Allen struggling, is that they are the two best offensive players on the team right now. Luke Kennard has struggled on defense some which could have been the reason for the change. The team needs to stay focused and Allen is better then he is playing. This team can go as Allen goes, but right now he isn't going. Duke needs to figure out the problem now or they might be surprised when the tourney comes around. It is a longshot, but at this rate losing out would make them miss the tourney.

WWE Raw Go-Home Show

The night was full of ups and downs. Raw had some more wrestles throw their names in the Royal Rumble match. The cruiserweights got quite a bit of exposure. Seth Rollins versus Triple H match was finally hinted at. What happens with that at the Royal Rumble?  Seth Rollins currently doesn't have a match at the Royal Rumble so something with Triple H is likely to happen. The interviews with Charlotte and Bayley were better then them being in the ring building the match. Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns looks to be setting up a Kevin Owens loss at the Royal Rumble. The big question is what role will Jericho play? He will be suspended above the ring in a cage, but the match is a no DQ match. They hit the nail on the head with the ending of the show. Three of the more popular superstars to ever be in the ring all in one ring, and all going to be in the rumble match. Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Goldberg made the night go from good to great. The setup is there, but now where do they go from here?

The Villain - The Grayson Allen Story

Grayson Allen is the newest member of the impressive group of hated Duke players. The 21 year old played high school basketball in Florida and became a Mcdonald's All American. Proving how athletic he is, Allen won the Slam Dunk Contest.  He had little impact through most of his freshman year, which is typical of  a freshman on a stacked Duke team. He only averaged 4.4 points per game during his freshman campaign. The turning point for Allen was in the National Championship Game, where he scored 16 points including 8 straight. He was the reason they got back in the groove and helped push the team to victory. Coming into his second season, Allen was touted by many as being the top player to make a huge leap from freshman to sophomore year. The sophomores campaign was no disappointment, averaging 21 points per game and playing as the star of the team. He came into the junior season as a preseason All-American, but has had an up and down year with injuries. On top of the injuries came the tripping, the meltdown, and the suspension.

The reality is no one turns into a villain without becoming a villain. Allen started the villainous change on February 8, 2016 when he tripped a Louisville player. The world was asking is he the next hated Duke player. In his second game against Louisville Allen received a technical and ejection. On February 25, 2016, Grayson had once again another incident of tripping against a Florida State University player. Allen had a ton of explaining to do leading into is junior campaign. He sit down with the media explaining his actions, apologizing and keeping the past in the past. On December 21, 2016, Grayson made one to many mistakes tripping a Elon player and having an emotional outburst. With the world fed up with his antics, Coach K suspended him for an indefinite amount of time. In the end it was one game, but he got his captaincy stripped to go along with that. What people don't see on the outside is how much they worked with him leading up to him coming back. If you know Coach K, he taught the kid lessons and made him a better person with in that time. It is now up to the young man to take the lessons and learn from his mistakes. Allen has already cemented himself on the list of hated Duke players. The reality is something about Duke and certain Duke players rub opposing fans the wrong way. Everyone knows Allen brought this on himself, but now that the microscope is on him. Will he learn from past mistakes?
