Bellator 179 is going to be a fantastic event but with MVP off the card, it took a minor hit. The main event is Paul Daley versus Rory MacDonald who both are former UFC fighters with two different fighting styles. Paul Daley got banned from the UFC and Rory MacDonald couldn't quite live up to the hype and potential. Daley has won 4 of his last 5 fights and is an elite knockout specialist with 29 knockouts in 39 career wins. In his last fight, he hit a flying knee on Brennan Ward to end the fight. MacDonald is in the prime of his career at age 27 but his coming off back to back losses in the UFC. MacDonald has an all around game which includes 13 finishes in 18 wins with 7 knockouts and 6 submissions. MacDonald will benefit from getting this fight to the ground and not standing and striking with Daley. The co-main features a light heavyweight contest between Linton Vassell versus Liam McGeary. Vassell and McGeary both have complete MMA skills and should set up for the best fight of the night. Vassell has lost 2 of last 5 fights but won his last two with wins over Francis Carmont and Emanuel Newton both by decision. McGeary has only one career loss and he lost the title to Phil Davis at Bellator 163. McGeary has a unique ground game and knockout power with his standup. He has 11 career finishes in 12 wins with 6 knockouts and 5 submissions. Other interesting fights to watch include Cheick Kongo versus an undefeated Augusto Sakai and Kimbo Slice's son Baby Slice getting an opportunity on the main card even after a loss but has knockout power just like his dad.
