UFC 209 - Woodley Vs. Thompson - Results

If you fell asleep before the main event you might be the lucky one. In an extremely tactical fight, Woodley stayed against the cage for 3 rounds in which he should have lost and a takedown and a flurry in two rounds gave him the edge. The final result ended up being a majority decision for Woodley. Thompson pressured most of the fight with not much output from either competitor but had octagon control the majority of the fight. In the 3rd round, Woodley spent about 2 minutes on top which gave him the edge. The corner for Woodley was calling for a finish after the 4th round so they that he was losing and he came out aggressive during that round and caught Thompson at the end of the 5th with a near stoppage. At this point the way Woodley has fought the last two fights being passive and not aggressive he is just keeping the belt warm for the next person he fights. The prelims had two of the greatest comebacks in the history of UFC with both competitors getting dominated until they pulled off the finish.  Alistair Overeem looked solid in his fight and proved his chin is more durable then most people thought. Overeem landed a brutal knee to Hunt to end the fight. The newcomer to the UFC Cynthia Calvillo from Team Alpha Male looked like she belonged especially with her ground game finishing the fight by rear-naked choke. Rashad Evans lost in a battle and it might be time for him to hang them up and retire. David Teymur upset Lando Vannata in and entertaining fight. The results are below:
