Fedor Emelianenko makes his Bellator debut against Matt Mitrione at Bellator 172. At the age of 40, Fedor is past his prime but that doesn't mean he won't get the victory over Mitrione. Fedor with 28 career finishes looks to add to that total with a finish on Saturday. "The Last Emperor" last fight was a very close decision win over Fabio Maldonado. If both of these fighters were in their prime this would easily be a win by Fedor. The fact is Fedor is 40 years old and Mitrione who is 38 has real knockout power. 10 of his 11 wins come by way of knockout. The fight could go with Fedor getting it to the ground or Mitrione catching him with a shot for the knockout. The event has a number of older fighters, but fighters who are fun to watch. Josh Thomson versus Patricky Freire should be an interesting stylistic matchup. Patricky is going to attempt to keep it standing and Thomson has a better chance if it goes to the ground. The co-main will have a similar feel to the main to see who can get into their game first. Thomson who comes in in 5-5 in his last 10 fights has won both is Bellator fights. Freire has been in Bellator for a long time now and has had many big fights and knockouts, but is coming off a loss to Michael Chandler back at Bellator 157. Cheick Kongo comes into this fight at 41 years old but continues to look better as he gets older. Kongo has 7-3 in his last 10 fights which seen 6 of those fights go to decision. Josh Koscheck makes his debut in Bellator following a 5 fight losing streak in the UFC. While in the UFC Koscheck fought for the welterweight title, but lost the fight. This is an interesting fight to determine if Koscheck has anything left in the tank or if it is time to retire. Watching Fedor is always a privilege as a fan of MMA, He is one of the best to ever do it and I don't expect any less in this fight.
